MYSA Player Development and Player Pathway


1. Develop the child’s appreciation of the game.

2. Keep winning and losing in proper perspective.

3. Be sensitive to each player’s developmental needs.

4. Educate the players to the technical, tactical, physical and psychological demands of the game for their level of play.

5. Implement rules and equipment modifications according to the player’s age group.

6. Allow players to experience all positions.

7. Players need to have fun and receive positive feedback.

8. Training should be conducted in the spirit of enjoyment and learning.

9. Provide the appropriate number of training sessions and matches according to the player’s stage of development.

10. Strive to help all players to reach their full potential and be prepared to move to the next stage of development 


U5 – U8 Discovery Phase

•No score/No pressure – Scores are not kept at these ages creating a no pressure environment allowing for players to learn, develop and enjoy the game

U9 – U12 Fundamental Phase

•Club Culture

•Technical and Tactical Emphasis - More training than games

•Focus on INDIVIDUAL and SMALL GROUP decisions

•Introduce Academy soccer at U8, classic soccer at U11 for those interested in higher level


U13 – U15 Training Phase

•Further Club Culture

•Technical and Tactical Emphasis - More training than games

•Focus on more TEAM DECISIONS

•Competitive levels for Classic, Premier, NLPC

 

U16 – U19 Performance Phase

•Steward Club Culture

•Tactical Emphasis – Quality of Performance

•Focus on TEAM DECISIONS

•Competitive levels for Classic, Premier, NLPC
